Thought experiment: All else being equal, if Trump were somehow removed from office via impeachment...wouldn’t Pence pardon him instantly & wouldn’t the party nominate him for 2020? And if he won, would his constitutional ‘clock’ on two consecutive terms start over?

It's literally in the Constitution, so yes. They cannot use impeachment to jail or fine, leta alone execute. It's not a punishment.

Even articles of impeachment can’t add extra-constitutional requirements, or prohibitions, to being elected President, Senator, or Representative.
