What I’m saying is that he has read and understood countless books—he has a scholars depth regarding US history and has read much else. So the crack about wiki/social media is just completely wrong.

Look—not going to go around with you on this. You claimed he was doing “research” from valid Wiki/social media hits. That’s just untrue. It’s a cheap shot. It’s false.

Columnists get paid because many human beings enjoy reading and the columnists write good things to read. Why do actors get paid? Similar reason. But they generally have to be good looking.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. He’s not a clown. You’re both wrong about his columns which are deeo and learned. He’s read the Federalist, doesn’t make absurdly inaccurate remarks about impeachment without knowing wtf he’s talking about. Again, David, have some modesty.

Replying to @yeselson @BlueBoxDave and
You need enough dispassion to understand that people who block you on Twitter may be jerks in your eyes, but they might still be intellectually serious people. An academic in London blocked me the other day because I believed her to be a braggart. She’s still gifted and serious.

You have no idea the shit he hears from people—yes, unambiguous racist shit—every fucking day. We’re all fragile. I’m fragile. The London academic who blocked me is fragile. You’re complainhg about being blocked—you’re fragile too. Again—have some humility.

I get tons of vicious abuse. And yes, I block people, but not writers/pundits (other than the Chapo clowns). But I take seriously the duty of a columnist (let alone a scholar) to engage with the other side. If you build a walled garden against serious critics, you're failing.

I’m not going to get into that here or defenses/criticisms of particular work. As I said, the *kind* of abuse he gets is different than what white writers receive, regardless of ideology. That would make anybody wary. My only point here is just this: he’s very much not a “clown.”
