I actually don’t care if he said the same thing about Obama, it is dangerous to suggest any leader was selected by a God especially if the suggestion is make by a public official.

I don’t recall any Evangelical making this observation about Obama when Obama was in office. However, I do remember plenty of rhetoric about him being the anti-Christ, and mocking liberals for allegedly treating him like the messiah (ie the way they now treat Trump).

Yes, but it's naive to think that Perry offered the remark for anything other than a justification of Trump, dishonesty, ineptitude and all, and so as a deflection from very grave accusations.

The main difference is that Trump BELIEVES he is chosen. Obama, I think was a little more humble.
