Jeter was great, but not inner-circle great.https://twitter.com/GoStevenGoldman/status/1197992715537043458 …

Being a consummate ambassador for baseball. Becoming, “Mr. November” months after 9/11 when the whole country needed baseball. Those are intangibles.

His ability to be drafted by a team capable of buying a lot of titles in the early 90s is unsurpassed

There is no way to argue Derek Jeter isn't a Hall of Famer that's even semi-credible. He has the stats for it, by far. He's top 20 All Time in times on base, top 5 in singles, 20th all time in Offensive WAR, 10 seasons in the top 10 for BA, 11th all time for runs scored. . .
-
I'm not arguing that. I'm just noting that he's not one of the inner-circle guys. He's not even close to being one of the 2 best SS ever.

lol you're looking at this through Met-colored glasses. We wouldn't be having a discussion on whether it'll be a unanimous vote or not if this wasn't the case.
-
Nah, this is more or less a unanimous view of analysts, even the Yankee fans. Jeter was one of the best hitters to play the position, long career, part of team with five rings. But he was also a historically bad fielder at his position.
