Jeter was great, but not inner-circle great.https://twitter.com/GoStevenGoldman/status/1197992715537043458 …

    Steven Goldman @GoStevenGoldman
Is it possible we've already forgotten Jeter's actual career? He was a very good, beloved player, but he was also a defensively limited SS who had to be sat down by Brian Cashman and TOLD he sucked. And he refused for A-Rod, then the better glove. Some team player. https://twitter.com/NewsdaySports/status/1197964877110947841 …

If HOF was measured by numbers alone, they wouldn't let baseball writers vote on it. On the intangible level you absolutely 100% can't argue that he's not inner-circle great.

Intangible, meaning what? Refusing to give up his position for A-Rod? Standing near Mariano while he closed a lot of games?

He wasn't even great if you believe the least-generous analyses of his defense. ~55 WAR with no peak.

He's Craig Biggio's offensive profile put at SS (incorrectly for the vast majority of his career). HoFer to be sure, but the idea that he's this obvious top 20 all-time guy is just nutty.

I was sure his middle name was ‘Pastadiving’. Ground ball in the hole pastadiving Jeter and in to left field for a single.
