I agree that it would require principled leadership from a number of GOP Senators, and that this is unlikely (and that few Dems are acting on ways that could change this)

I’d actually argue that those in competitive races up this year are the very least likely to ever vote to convict under any circumstances- it would be the backbenchers/those not up for years/the retiring that would decide to shift and hope for things to calm over time.
