Yes, we’re being raised to expect/demand a degree of economic security that’s unprecedented in the whole history of human childbearing. But even that level of security (for example, in Europe’s social democracies) often doesn’t even spur replacement-level fertility.

Perhaps because there's an inverse correlation: the less economically secure (esp. in agro economies) feel the need to have MORE kids to help support the family.
