The sad reality is that no Republican helped his or her career by repudiating Nixon in 1974, & no Democrat helped his or her career by repudiating Bill Clinton in 1999 or Andrew Johnson in 1868. They "move on ... w/out repudiating" at their peril. Trump's tenuous coalition should be strengthened with/by a less-polarizing figure. I understand that certain 'conservatives' would like things to go back to the way they were, back when the GOP was facing perm. minority status.
