I restored a '68 Mustang, installed power disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, and swapped in the engine from a '95 Mustang (auto trans, but could spin the tires from a stop). I *barely* replaced the intake manifold on my '02 explorer. Not sure I can find it on my '16.

I’m old enough that I could get a quirky starter working by crawling underneath the car and whacking it with a wrench.

It's actually an issue for hobbyists -- a lot of older cars have been taken off of the market.
