From now on the president doesn’t get a SCOTUS choice unless he has a majority in the Senate. That’s definitely what the founders intended.

The president doesn’t “get a SCOTUS choice” period. Senate consent is not just a formality or a rubber stamp. The Founders understood the ultimate power resides with the people. If they don’t like how the Senate is conducting the process they can vote them out.
