I'd really like to write something about why most people have got it wrong about the impeachment process for Presidents, but I just can't figure out where would be appropriate to post it.
He pushed the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which more than anything else led to the war. He also pursued a vigorous but mostly inconsequential foreign policy.

Definitely right about KS-NE, but I'd hardly call the opening of Japan a small achievement. The promises re: Britain and Spain/Cuba fell short fruition, the latter probably for the better. But inconsequential-to-decent still puts him ahead of many Presidents on FP.
