I grew up in the West, and lynching there was largely devoid of a racial context - basically, it was what happened to cattle rustlers. BUT it's absurd not to recognize the connection to racial violence, and be appropriately cautious in using that term.

totally agree, and I think he should have chosen a different word to avoid the blowback, but my goodness. The outrage from all the people who call him "literally Hitler" every day? It's absurd.
