I'm just glad the creative genius lived long enough to see his vision all the way through. Hats off to you, John Williams.

I stood in line at the NorthPark Twin on night 2 to see the first one. A double date. Same theater I saw Tora Tora Tora with my dad a few years earlier
-
The first one, I saw months after it came out; I was five, after all. Return of the Jedi opened Memorial Day weekend. Only one single-screen theater in the county had it. My dad waited with us through a full screening, 2 1/2 hours on line.

Yeah, but we weren't told the whole series was actually really long survival horror where you get to like the characters in the first 2/3 then they kill them all off in terrible ways in the final 1/3.

Likewise (except I was 7). The Last Jedi was so bad though I probably won't see this latest movie opening weekend.

When the re-release said Star Wars was Episode IV, we were promised twelve.

No, I vividly remember, before Empire, knowing that it was Episode 4 of 9. It was in the novelization.
