If you were the Mariners, would you have handled King Felix's early years much differently? There's really no way of knowing if protecting his arm would have avoided an early burnout. That said, he threw 582 innings age 20-22 *before* becoming a stud starter.

2007, 2009, & 2014 were the only years in Felix Hernandez' twenties when the team was playing for anything, so there's an argument that they could have laid off him more in 2006 & 2008 in particular, with the team going nowhere.
