I will get around to updating this at some point, but from 2014, my historical look at the standard for impeachment and why I didn't think pursuing one with no chance of bipartisan Senate or public support was wise http://baseballcrank.com/archives2/2014/07/politics_obama_9.php …pic.twitter.com/SU7oT8akzb

The problem with "just impeach because it's the right thing to do & ignore the politics" (a stance many of us took, as much younger folk, in 1998): impeachment w/o conviction is a purely political act, leaving the target in office. The politics is really the whole ball of wax.

That doesn't mean the politics is necessarily against impeachment. But impeachment is, and was designed to be, a political act. Pretending that's not a consideration is pointless at best, self-destructive at worst.

Every time a Republican is President then impeachment proceedings begin immediately

That’s debatable- The founders could have looked at it the way they viewed rhe original intent of the Senate & Electoral College. To be a sober minded, non partisan frenzied check on things when the partisan hacks and their supporters of unwashed masses went too far.

Honestly, under our constitution- All Presidential politics are borderline illegal. No way that pootical parties should be controlling the elector nomination process, or allowed to put up competing slates to be the binding choice of the states.

Everything is politics, impeachment was meant to be restrictive, Pelosi’s fascism is where Democrats have gone.

Wrong. Madison intended that the president be insulated from congress by insisting on a very high bar for removal. George Mason felt that "maladministration" was sufficient (apparently your view), thus would have made the imp. process entirely political in nature.

Impeachment was designed to be insulated from politics, else the president would simply be at the behest of congress. That the process has *become* political is no reason to misunderstand the framers' intents.
