OTOH, this part of that thread is very at odds with Reagan's behavior during the tense, grueling marathon summits with Gorbachev. Reagan was no longer the Reagan of 10 years earlier, but he was up to high stakes when needed.https://twitter.com/Zathras3/status/1172291842064318467 …

Reagan's overall record illustrates that older presidents can do the job, but also why we should be skeptical about them. He was unusually fit & active for his age, had a wealth of experience. He also had serious health problems in office.pic.twitter.com/8xjcP13uHM

You could say much the same about a number of older presidents who were effective but plagued by ill health, from Andrew Jackson to Dwight Eisenhower. Ike almost died in office.

Yeah, one reason the age/health thing didn't fly against Reagan in 1984 was that he had survived a bullet inches from his heart & kept going.https://twitter.com/NoChromeHD/status/1172525654887272449 …

We do not need a continuously active president. We do need a president who is capable of great bouts of activity at moments when leadership is most needed. https://twitter.com/SteveAustinWI/status/1172525972198809600 …

Age shouldn't be an absolute bar. But voters should, in my view - and I've said this for years, about Trump, McCain, Dole, etc. - hold older candidates (esp over 70, now guys who'd pass 80 in office) to a higher standard to prove they're physically & mentally up to the job.
