Wow, this multi-thousand word piece managed to make me feel not a modicum of sympathy for a single character! Who’s worse: someone pathetic enough to aspire to be an influencer or the brown-noser dumb enough to become her lackey? https://www.thecut.com/2019/09/the-story-of-caroline-calloway-and-her-ghostwriter-natalie.html …

You see, based on tweets like these I expected an actual plot with events that happened in this story. But alas! Apparently I just don’t get the allure of a story about nothing. https://twitter.com/chick_in_kiev/status/1171606053278146560 …

Anyways, reaaaaaally not a fan of supposedly serious journalism outlets publishing first person stories designed solely to smear said writers’ former friends or significant others. This is not the first time a major mag has done this, and it’s not the most egregious case.

Letting someone no one's ever heard of before spend thousands of words whining about how she can't score a date and that her pseudo-famous friend was sometimes self-absorbed is not journalism. I really don't understand how The Cut justified publishing the Caroline Calloway thing.

I keep seeing tweets deeming this story super "relatable" or "universal," and...I don't get it. Who stays in touch with passionless, self-absorbed people? I feel like I'm watching the hysterical & unrelatable Twitter reaction to Cat Person all over again!https://twitter.com/heykmenz/status/1171562879486693376 …

Kaitlin MenzaVerified account @heykmenzI feel like I've read or seen or experienced this friendship dynamic a million times, the manic pixie alpha and supportive beta. This is Beaches. Who stays in unhealthy relationships? Only everyone.

I cannot relate to that at all. People can be so self-destructive and I never understand it.
