Yeah, the stuff Frederick Douglass believed after about 1850 would make him a Republican today in principle, but there is no way he'd be for Trump. And the early Douglass would never have joined either party.

I disagree. Assuming, Douglass, Martin, Malcolm, Washington et al were alive at the same time, they‘d have a similar position on current state of politics and ask, why are we building up China and taking care of the world but not those that helped build

Having the same view on the relative threat of one geopolitical foe doesn't mean that everyone is in accord with a specific administration's approach in other areas. LBJ and Goldwater were both anti-Communist, but MLK supported one over the other for solid reasons.

If Martin thought like you, he would have engaged LBJ. That is not a winning strategy for blacks at a time when the Party that they are devoted too are courting others aggressively while ignoring inner city. Time to have a real conversation based on ol' school mentality
