I hope you can understand why some people might not feel like Donald Trump's coalition is clearly "more spread out and representative of the nation as a whole" by any clear or reasonable standard.

That's not even significantly different from his regional margins in 1884 and 1892, in which he won. The electoral difference was NY. How a NY governor did in NY after lengthy fights with the Tammany Hall NYC political machine had little to do with the Confederacy.
