In a debate over social science, which is what this is, those who say that X is real and important should be able to provide evidence for that proposition.
Which brings me back to my starting point as well: proof, in a democracy, need not emanate from social science; it may also be drawn from the traditions and accumulated experience of the common man.

Democratic votes don’t produce truth, they just select politicians. Running with your argument: Since voters don’t care about social cohesion and few even know what it means, does that mean social cohesion is not important?
