Hurt. Trump had unique appeal in Michigan and Wisconsin. His supporters are Trump supporters first and Republicans second.https://twitter.com/LPDonovan/status/1165256103594209280 …

Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio probably wouldn't have carried Wisconsin or Michigan.

Michigan, yes. But why do you think Cruz (who beat Trump by 13 in the WI primary) or Rubio (who polled better head-to-head there than Trump) could not have won the Scott Walker/Ron Johnson voters?

One, that's not true of his message. Two, that doesn't answer my point, which is that all you needed to win WI was to win the people who were already voting Republican.

True that Trump got fewer votes than Romney, but what about Trump makes D turnout lower than for Cruz or Rubio? That left-wingers were less offended by Trump? I'd submit it was more the post-incumbent dynamic of 2016.

How do you think a Cruz or Rubio in '16 does in MI and PA?

PA, you could have won with the Toomey voters, & the west of the state really disliked Hillary. Undoubtedly Trump got some only-Trump votes there but he also bled a lot in the burbs. Also Rubio in particular puts some other states in play. Probably only Trump wins MI.
