It’s all about politics. 7 times the opposing party blocked a SCOTUS nominee in an election year.

I don't generally like accusations of "bad faith" but, man, these ad hoc, tortured reinterpretations of the McConnell rule are obviously being defended in, well, bad faith.

At least just own the power play here. Just be honest and drop the pretext. You guys just want that seat filled. This isn't, and won't be, about what McConnell *really* meant back then.
-
What power play? The Senate has a role in putting SC justices on the bench. McConnell made a political decision (a highly risky one mind you) as they controlled one of the constitutional levers of power. It was made an issue of the campaign and the Rs won.

If a POTUS with 36% approval gets a Federalist Society nominee approved a few months before the election by a Senate majority representing a clear minority of voters; y'all are begging for Dems to pack the court first chance they get. Hardball is hardball.

We don’t govern by approval rating. Win an election.
