There is no such thing as an issue with only one side. Even when you're dealing with a question like slavery or the Holocaust, in which there are obvious rights & wrongs, you can easily find good-faith scholarly disputes about any number of questions of fact or perspective.

Yes, please. Do share any important good faith argument to be had concerning this subject.

Oh heavens, where does one start? How culpable was FDR? Soviet Russia? The Pope? The German Lutheran Church? The Dutch government? George Soros? Polish Communists? Volkswagen? Medieval France? The variations are endless just on that one angle.

You want to be taken seriously as an intellectual but your proposed “serious” conservative history story is assessing the responsiblity of 13-year-old Jewish kid George Soros in holocaust? Bro this is exactly why the thing you want to exist doesn’t. Because it’s incredible dumb.

Wait, you mean history is full of situations that call for judgment and perspective even in the presence of monstrous evil? Who knew?

George Soros was a random 13-year-old boy during the holocaust. Your comments are just... anti Semitic. Since you’re doubling down, I think it’s fair to ask @NRO what’s up with this contributor who thinks George Soros might be responsible for the holocaust?

Unsurprisingly, you lack even the minimal intellect to grasp an extremely simple point: "this is bad" is only the starting point of historical inquiry. Lots of situations like that of Soros existed: people caught up in a colossal horror. Some can be more excused than others.

I absolutely agree “conservative intellectuals” should spend the next 30 to 50 years grappling with questions about how to assess blame for people “caught up in” inhumane horrors (they participated in). I actually think there’s a pretty good chance you end up doing exactly that.

I also think it’s fair to say that it’s not interesting to the rest of us & that no one wants to pay you to come up with long-winded excuses for why you “had to” support Trump bc ACTUALLY Hillary would have been worse, which what you’re going to spend the rest of your life doing
