The economic discontent with colleges is half the story. The other half, and why Republicans in particular are discontented, is that our colleges are increasingly bad at preparing their graduates for responsible American citizenship.https://twitter.com/TheAtlantic/status/1163835686132342785 …

"There’s been a sharp increase in dissatisfaction with America’s colleges and universities among Republicans in recent years, and it makes perfect sense for right-of-center policy makers to want to do something about it," argues @Reihan: http://on.theatln.tc/vqHiypJ

The 4-year liberal arts model hasn't served us well for a few decades. We need to fully fund vocational/technical schools and provide a faster, lower-cost track for those entering fields such as software engineering and other technical fields. Curricula need corporate input.

That is one very bad take, unsupported by no evidence, but a lot of political bias.

Yes, but not (except for radicals in elite schools) in ways that most conservatives care about. Avg business major in non-elite school is not exposed to much related to democratic citizenship, whether from the Left or otherwise.

Many I know are encouraging trades, two yrs comm college, and then transferring if it is the right field. Personally, I'd only recommend college in the right risk/reward. It's $150K gamble, and doesn't make someone smarter, or more educated in truest sense (and I have 2 degrees)

Let us talk of critical thinking, decision-making and a solid grasp of history, literature, science & grammar. That's what's missing. Once upon a time a college graduate was literate. They could read and actually write a cogent, proper paragraph. They learned how to learn.

Could this have anything to do with college educated voters increasingly moving away from the Republican party? Is that part of the discontent perhaps?
