I can’t imagine a version of America so rickety that a magazine package detailing the history of one of the institutions most critical to both its founding and its remaking would be detrimental.

It comes on the heels of the NYT seemingly trying to taint the legacy of the moon landing. So I can see how that and the publicity around the 1619 project could be used to frame it that way. But I haven't seen any of the actual pieces comprising the project do that.

I found the first description of it curious. Saying slavery made America exceptional. Which creates this notion that it worked? Not sure that’s a message to send. Although I do know that’s not what they meant at all. When I take a breath I’m looking forward to reading them.
