The idea of doing this on bike paths seems at least plausible. It sounds like the (predictable) heavy wear and tear from vehicular traffic was the #1 problem.

Every wind farm means there has to be a power plant, usually a gas fired unit, in order to maintain a steady source of power. The wind can offset demand if it happens to coincide with peak usage. If not?
There’s no good way to store it. So it is in the grid, or wasted.
