Trump is a symptom of a specific set of beliefs. Removing him, while mandatory, doesn't remove those beliefs.

I honestly don’t think that’s right. Support for Trump has very little to do with ideology. I do focus groups with Republicans all across the country and they voted for him because for 8 years he was in their living rooms as the consummate businessman. It’s attitudinal.

At least I think that’s true of his “burn it all down” base. Then there’s all the reluctant Trump voters who say they didn’t vote for him, but against Hillary. Many of those now use some of his tradition R moves to rationalize support—judges, tax cuts, the economy, etc.
