A healthy society should have: -A self-confident culture -A strong native birthrate -A steady & diverse inflow of immigrants -Thriving non-governmental institutions -Strong norms favoring linguistic, cultural & economic assimilation We used to call these ideas a "melting pot."

I had a good friend argue 10 years ago that Stone Cold Steve Austin in the WWE was a cultural turning point. In the 80s Hulk Hogan had a wholesome All America Hero image in the ring, but by the mid-90s the the crowds wanted an anti-hero. It was prophetic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjWPoQWdmjg …

Lol. Actually he may have a point. Stone Cold was and is one of my favorite characters because of his anti-authority tendencies. Happened the same time the Clintons were in office.

Until '20s maybe, but how "diverse" was pool of immigrants when that just meant your name started with O'/Mc or ended in a vowel? All subjective criteria, but running the table seems fairly elusive off top of my head.

Less diverse than today, but seen as diverse at the time.
