Reminder: Reid's destruction of the filibuster for appellate judges ended up being a complete disaster for Democrats. What's to lose doing it again?https://twitter.com/sahilkapur/status/1161008414308360192 …

So I oppose abolishing the filibuster. But has it really been a disaster? Does anyone actually believe that McConnell wouldn’t have gone nuclear the minute Democrats filibustered judges or at the very least Gorsuch?

It eliminated any argument against doing so. Mitch doesn't get ahead of his caucus, some of whom would otherwise have been much more hesitant to do that.

I buy the argument that he might’ve struggled after Jones won to get enough votes, but I kinda think it was inevitable.

Bear in mind that it is a lot easier for Mitch to do *nothing* than for him to do *something*. The latter really requires the buy-in from nearly all his caucus. And voting to strip the rule is something.
