I can agree to disagree with Tom on this; "anyone to stop Trump" is a defensible position. What I will never stop pushing back on is the view in some quarters that "whatabout Trump" means 1) the Democrat gets a pass from criticism and/or 2) you can vote D & not own what they do.https://twitter.com/RadioFreeTom/status/1160989711755808769 …

2. If we give Democrats a pass on the theory that Trump is bad, we end up right back with the logic of Flight 93.

3. I'm proud I opposed Trump in the 2016 primary. Right thing to do. I stand by my view that, based on the available evidence at the time, voting 3d party in 2016 was the right choice, as well. (Given a do-over, I'd write in instead of McMullin, however).

I agree but you, like me, have no vote in NY anyway. 3rd party or whatever means nothing because no GOP would win NY. So going 3rd party is a nice way for us to virtue signal but it cost both of us nothing.

I think the question for people like you is for whom are you encouraging people to vote. I'm also registered in NY. I virtue signaled by voting Trump.

I was comfortable saying I wouldn't have either on my record. And I would have probably done the same in 2020 even with the hakarat hatov I have for many of the things Trump has done for Israel. But not after Harris/Biden/Warren/etc embraced Sharpton. Now I am planning on Trump.

I agree with Dan's point 6, that elections are ultimately binary and moral compromises, and only in extreme cases is the sidelines a moral high ground. We just disagree about whether or not 2016 was that extreme case.

My point was that in NY state, I could afford to be high & mighty (as could he). If I were in a battleground state, I would have been forced to face consequences for my decision that I didn't face in NY. The same dynamic will be in play in 2020 but my calculations have changed.

My vote will not matter. But I have a platform, & that means I have a responsibility to state my position as if it did.

And by voting 3rd party (which I did) or abstaining, I express my position as well. But because it didn't matter, I didn't have to weigh it like I might have.
