One thing that would convince me Biden is in trouble is if you saw concerted efforts by party elites to throw their weight behind another relatively moderate candidate. Not sure who that would be though. Klobuchar is the most plausible but her performance has been meh so far.

Have similar thought. Get emails from readers asking whether Biden can be persuaded to step aside. All of these seem quite implausible as long as he is clearly the frontrunner by a big margin and by current polls (which are very early) is clearly the strongest candidate v Trump.

The interesting thing is there is no shortage of candidates running in the centrist lane -- but none of them have been able to present themselves as a plausible alternative to Biden.

Correct Harris (semi), O’Rourke, Booker (sorta), klobuchar. None of them. Also centrist in this case is a misnomer. Conventional center left/ liberal is more apt

I feel like there should be a position for someone to run as "Obama-Democrat-But-Not-Getting-A-Bit-Forgetful-In-Old-Age." But so far, voters don't seem to think so.

The problem is, who else is closely identified with Obama's tenure who isn't either a Cabinet burnout or a 30 year old podcaster? Rahm?

She's the one Democrat who would have cleared the field. But thus far, she has not wanted to run for office.
