Difference in Texas is that there is a strong Tejano culture of Hispanics who have lived here for generations. So there's always been a non-immigrant Hispanic elite class.

It's also hard to be worse than California's conservative outreach in recent years. In part the Trump factor is out of the movement's control, but the whole Orange County collapse was a long time coming.

True; it's a vicious cycle of despair & lashing out. I understand why white, conservative Californians feel 'invaded,' given the huge, rapid demographic & political shifts, but their response has been self-defeating & alienating. Texas has a better way.
