Mississippi hasn't had a Republican as the state Attorney General since 1878. I believe it's only had one.

NYC elects R mayors like every other time. Plenty of R governors in blue states too

True fact here in Coastal Elite Land (otherwise known as "California"): between Jerry Brown's 1st term and his latest term, we had 1 Dem governor....who was quickly drummed out of office.pic.twitter.com/p9XmhYp7oz

Alabama state House and state Senate were solid D until 2010. Mo Brooks US House district was D until 2010 - even when it was open in 2008.

This is a bunk endpoint. I know Shelby wasn’t the first to switch parties but the 80s were filled with just that type of swap. Can’t really compare the parties without that info included.

It depends what issue you're discussing. This is a discussion of whether one-party rule promotes corrupt government & misrule. For several decades, the two parties hotly contested those states.

Alabama had one-party rule until an internal Democrat schism in 1986 yielded the surprise election of perennial R Gov candidate Guy Hunt. The state legislature was supermajority D from 1874-2010. The D primary was tantamount to election for most state offices prior to 1994.

Georgia’s legislature, governor’s office and statewide offices in general were supermajority Democrat from Reconstruction until 2002.

Uhhh, rural America is pretty solidly R and urban cities are solid D mostly because of gerrymandering. Nor is it new. This district, for example, has had the same R rep since ‘81.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/inspired-life/wp/2015/04/22/fresh-data-analysis-unlocks-a-key-to-curing-americas-unhealthiest-places/ …
