Boris Johnson is a fascinating & entertaining character, which is not the same as being a serious, prepared leader. He's kind of a cross between Newt Gingrich & Trump, but with a distinct Fleet Street flavor, & little in common with U.S. conservatives philosophically.

You'd be a fool to rule out the possibility that Boris Johnson will be a successful Prime Minister, though the odds are against it. He has a quick wit, flair, ruthless opportunism, & a touch of what Churchill described as the legerdemain of the great military commander:pic.twitter.com/ckIHzBClsi

The parallel to Trump, of course, is in the Tories picking Boris, a man of at best sketchy character & little principle, as an overcorrection from Theresa May, who is a sober & serious person but lacks the determination, constancy, charisma, or strategic sense to be a Thatcher.
