True. But also true that he would have had better defenses.https://twitter.com/liobserver/status/1151676431883276289 …

If Jeb Bush was nominee , they’d have treated him the same way and called him a racist and fascist as well.

But his defenses would have been ignored or dismissed. The critics don’t care about the actual truth, only in spreading smears.

True about the Left but we on the Right would have been more unified and energized in defending Jeb.

You don’t believe Trump has been divisive? Maybe I follow all the Conservatives on Twitter that struggle to defend Trump.

Related: I thought that the right would have been energized and united by Mitt choosing Paul Ryan in 2012. Boy was I wrong!

      But Trumpism wrecked Paul Ryan.

I agree. And Trumpism dominates today’s GOP. Thought experiment: had Trump not dropped out of the 2012 race in 2011, would he have been the nominee instead of Mitt?

Hmmm. It’s hard to imagine the voters would have preferred a guy who can’t speak a coherent sentence back then. But voters got desperate after 2nd Obama term.

Yeah, I think it was the 2012 defeat & 2013 immigration fiasco that really created the critical mass to get Trump just enough voters to win a vastly divided field. That said, Mitt faced a very weak field.

And not many wanted to run against Obama. It’s just so fascinating to see how fast the party went from Mitt being insufficiently conservative to embracing someone without a conservative bone in his body.

They're more worried about the survival of the American nation than they are about cutting taxes for plutocrats and Mitt-style 'conservatism.'
