I'm guessing his being a Yankee didn't hurt.

Totally sufficient — Red Sox could have finished 17 games behind without Williams. DiMaggio was more valuable.

Also remember — while hitting .400 was seen as great, it was the 13th time that century that it had been done, no one had a clue it was maybe the last time ever. No one had ever hit in 56 straight games.

By the way, there was no sacrifice fly scoring rule in 1941 — if your fly out scored a run from third, you were still charged with an 0-1. If it had been in effect, Williams would have batted .417. And Joe still should have been MVP.

DiMaggio was a better all around player. Having said that, his 125 RBIs to Ted's 120 is the only big hitting category where he did better. During the hitting streak Ted had a higher batting average than Joe. WAR & OPS, clearly in Ted's favor. Writers hated Teddy Ballgame.
