These numbers are just unreal. Ted Williams was seriously good at hitting baseballs.

Definitely one of the Top 5 best hitters

DiMaggio was a better outfielder, played in a tougher park for a hitter, and his team won the pennant.

All I know is Mr Coffee led his team to finish 17 games ahead of the BoSox. How valuable could that Teddy guy have been?

Williams' batting WAR was 10.6, DiMaggio's 9.1. http://Baseball-reference.com (tablet version) doesn't show their defensive WARs, but DiMaggio was a great centerfielder, Williams an adequate leftfielder.

Game 56 and game 57 were both in Cleveland but in different ballparks. At that time the Tribe played day games at old League Park and night games at Municipal Stadium. 67,468 saw the streak end. Joe D went 0-3 with a BB.

Joe D. also batted righty in old YankeeStadium & led the league in RBI & TB while also outpacing Williams in hits. And his team won the AL Pennant that yr by 17 games over Ted’s RedSox. Not to mention his glove..(did Williams even use his?) There’s more to being an MVP than BA.
