I have never been able to decide whether he was actually so deluded as to believe he could win himself, or actively trying to torpedo Cruz. (Without of course suspecting Trump would actually win.)

Remember Kasich was basically planning to launch his 2020 campaign 48 hrs after the election. I don't doubt he thought a Trump general defeat was better than a Cruz victory.

There are few people more culpable for Trump's nomination than Kasich, who acted cravenly for his own gain to get nominated in '20. I agree with the other commentators on this thread. Kasich was all about Kasich. He was doing everything in his power to advance his own cause. History will not be kind to John Kasich.
