As infuriating as I found Perot's candidacy at the time, he represented the purest positive case for a third-party candidate: that there were perspectives & proposals simply not being represented by either major party, rather than "I'd go further" or "I'd find the middle ground."

Bush would have won. Perot opened up a front against Bush on the right (more or less). The election was a referendum on Bush and literally everyone had a reason to oppose him. As a result, Clinton got very little media scrutiny. The attacks on Bush from the media were relentless.
