During my senior year of high school, I was in a band with three other good friends. However, we were all destined to go our separate ways after we graduated. I kept in touch with two of them, but the third I was sort of in and out with. Our paths completely diverged.

About two weeks ago, I started listening to the crappy basement recordings, the CD we recorded, and everything else I had from those days. I thought about reaching out. I hadn’t spoken to him in over ten years. Had no idea what I might say.

I found out this week that he got a sudden brain bleed while working and passed away shortly afterward, leaving behind a wife and two very young kids. It floored me.

Like I said, We hadn’t remained close after high school. I wish we had. He was a great guy. His wife and kids don’t deserve this. His parents don’t deserve this. 31 years old and an aneurysm suddenly takes him from the world. It’s not right.

If you have a friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in a while, someone maybe you fell out with a while back, it might not be a bad idea to reach out. You never know when you won’t get the chance.
