Whether you think that makes Biden a good general election candidate or not depends on your theory of the 2020 electorate. But some of the others who can succeed at #1 will fail badly at #2.

Of course, the Democrats' entire theory of the 2020 election would go up in smoke without Trump. He, personally, is their best asset.

Yup. Biden undercuts so many attacks on Trump. Hands all over women? Check. Deemed racist by the social justice left? Check. Loves him some segregationists? He's the CARICATURE of Trump.

The Dems most against Biden are also most against Trump. It’s weird to me if Biden did get the nod, they’d sit out and not vote as opposed to trying to oust the man they hate.

In the '20 election, #3 will be much less important than in other elections, as Trump is polarizing & almost all mave made up their mind on him. Then it becomes a numbers game of whether Biden's 2 minus 1 nets a greater raw total than (for example) Harris's 1 minus 2. (1/2)

My first thought is that a Harris strategy would definitely be better than a Biden strategy for raw popular vote margin, not as sure about electoral college. But I do think Harris'20 would improve on HRC'16 in mobilizing Detroit/Philadelphia/Milwaukee turnout. (2/2)

As nominee Biden's pitch to party leaders and commoners is, we need the full machine to win the White House, Senate and House. Sorta mirrors 2016 Reps who were repulsed by Hillary so grudgingly backed Trump.
