there is no decent argument against algorithmic, rules based, district-drawing.

Does anyone do that? Seems those that care so much should make that happen and show others the benefit.

And I don't trust fancy words for bureaucratic control like "compactness" which always seem to end up functioning as Democrat gerrymanders.

Gerrymandering is always going to occur, unfortunately. It's pernicious, but whenever money and power are decided by decisions, those decisions are always going to be partisan. The only question is if voters get to decide who does the gerrymandering.

@Redistrict has a fantastic resource on 538 (https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/redistricting-maps/#Compact …). For me, the most fair redistricting option is to try to minimize the number of cuts into cities / counties. As it turns out, that would yield roughly the same # of party safe seats as the current model.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

It’s not overstated in NC. I don’t like the courts doing it, either, but what other recourse is there when a majority vote is represented by 23% of the districts?

Gerrymandering is gross, but a lot of the Dem reaction to the Court's ruling stems from Dem inability and unwillingness to compete for rural voters.

If you actually believe gerrymandering's impact is overstated (and I strongly doubt that you actually believe that), then you're terrible at basic arithmetic and too stupid to be taken seriously by anyone other than
