This is an impossible argument. Jordan spent a higher percentage of games on the court than Gretzky spent on the ice. These are hard sports to compare.

Impossible to make a perfect comparison, yes. But relative to the median or best possible player in their sport, I think you have to go with Gretzky.

There used to be fights in the
@AP newsroom of folks thinking Lemieux was better. I was not on that side of the argument...Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Gretzky was surpassed before his career was over. His records are a function of his peak being spent during a shocking spike in historical scoring which rapidly deflated at the moment a better player came along.

Surpassed by who?

I was TDY in Los Angeles during Gretzky's last year with the Kings. Never been to a hockey game, but bought a ticket hoping to see the Great One score a goal. No luck for 2+ periods - walk up to the concessions to get a beer. Crowd roars. Gretzky scores.
-
I saw Gretzky play one of his first pro games when he was in the WHA. You could tell he was going to be something special.

Tough one to call. One thing that hangs on Wayne in my eyes is that he never won the cup w/o Messier while Mark brought it home in NY. Jordan had to wait years for his supporting cast. Edmonton was stocked with HoFers.

Nobody, not even LeBron, has had that killer drive to win as much as Jordan. Even during his HoF speech he was talking smack. Not voting on this one, both are Icons of their sport.

You can argue Jordan’s been superseded but you’d be wrong.
