This quote is from a 1952 Harry Truman speech saying it would be "disastrous" & "down a dreary road to the past" away from what "made this country strong enough to resist Hitler" to elect Eisenhower. The voters overwhelmingly disagreed. https://www.trumanlibrary.org/publicpapers/index.php?pid=2292 …https://twitter.com/BernieSanders/status/1138877225871319040 …

Harry Truman was a good man & a strong Commander-in-Chief, but quoting him talking about Republicans is a dicey business. NY Times headline from 4 years earlier: https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1948/10/26/85347582.html?action=click&contentCollection=Archives&module=LedeAsset®ion=ArchiveBody&pgtype=article&pageNumber=1 …pic.twitter.com/GkEj4s77W4

Good stuff. Ty. We don’t teach much on the politics of the 50’s. Though Truman served admirably in a difficult time, he was a machine politician from a corrupt Kansas City. Not unlike Obama’ Chicago. (1)
