Donald Trump is the ideal Republican presidential candidate, if your goals are to maximize base Democratic turnout *and* maximize the number of votes for the Democrat from people who voted for Romney, McCain and/or W Bush.

The amount of “Trump won” responses on here just shows that a lot of folks have no clue about the importance of timing and opponent in elections. If someone wants to tell me how “Trump winning Michigan” sets him apart (and is replicable), that’s worth hearing.

Bottom line, it’s virtually certain Romney/Rubio or so would have beaten HRC in 2016 (with more popular votes and less EVs is my guess) and Obama would have lit Trump on fire in 2012.

Rubio certainly would not have come anywhere close to beating Hillary. Romney would be a very long shot but maybe.

LOL. He ran well ahead of Trump in November. And he had polled better against her in head to head races.pic.twitter.com/cHQ0M57ix4

He needs to just shut it down. Trump was a remarkable story in the primary. He was an underwhelming GE candidate and was saved by HRC also being trash despite a 2-2.5 popular vote less.

Rubio as an incumbent in his own home state ran ahead of a presidential candidate from his party? Just like most incumbent senators throughout history. What a surprise. How would Rubio have done in MI, PA, & WI? Not a chance of winning. There is no map to 269 for Rubio.
