Donald Trump is the ideal Republican presidential candidate, if your goals are to maximize base Democratic turnout *and* maximize the number of votes for the Democrat from people who voted for Romney, McCain and/or W Bush.

Was the '16 suburban swing as significant as Obama-Trump voters, or independents who sat it out? The electorate performs very differently in presidentials than midterms; I can't fathom a scenario in which the biggest celebrity doesn't win.

In 2017 and 2018 the Democrats won races that they hadn’t won in 100+ years here on Long Island. They won NY Senate seats that Republicans have held for decades and decades and decades.

I believe PA, MI, and WI were won by Trump with less than 1%, had those states stayed blue, we could’ve had another Clinton in the WH. With that knowledge and the results of 2018, it seems like the President didn’t learn his lesson to try to improve the vote in blue states
