What's frustrating about Pete Rose being such a terrible human being: he wasn't just a good ballplayer; he was *admirable* as a ballplayer, a paragon of hustle, durability, consistency, endurance. He played more games than anyone, & played each one like he had money riding on it.

Pete Rose was *fun* to watch, as a player, as a manager, even as a cranky old guy in the studio sparring with A-Rod. Fun is good for the game. And yet, Pete's rap sheet by now as a man is appalling.
