Yeah, given the badness of his campaign strategy in general (skip the first three primaries and then win big in Florida!) it might reflect not principle so much as stupidity

It partly reflected the dilemma that Romney had home bases in both NH & MI, while McCain & Huck had locked down the veterans & the evangelicals in SC. But Rudy should have gone hard in NH, & being pro-choice killed SC.
