I am - unless I'm making a very specific intra-conservative point - happy to debate my political views with people who do not share them. If you are not a believing Catholic, however, your views of my faith are simply not relevant. You do not believe; no more is worth saying.

I reject non-Catholic critiques of my faith for the same reason that I reject all efforts by non-Muslims (myself included) to say what "true" Islam is. Outsiders can observe & comment, but outsiders by definition reject the sources of a faith's legitimacy for teaching anything.

Very few of the people angry at Church teachings in this area have any intention of a good-faith understanding of them, which is one reason why there is so little point engaging them within the framework of Church teachings.
