I’m not sure I agree. All of us can read text and evaluate interpretations. As a Republican, do you disavow any ability to consider the extent to which a Democrat Jews to the party line? It’s the same issue.

Christianity and Islam both claim roots in Judaism. Obviously both broke away for their own reasons, but all 3 faiths still share lots of common texts.

Very few of the people angry at Church teachings in this area have any intention of a good-faith understanding of them, which is one reason why there is so little point engaging them within the framework of Church teachings.

(1/2) The idea that Protestants can't theologically contest Catholic beliefs (and vice versa) because "THEY DON'T BELIEVE LIKE US" is the stupidest, most obscurantist take on Christianity I've ever heard.

(2/2) Luckily, the actual Catholic Church didn't adopt that kind of garbage take, which is why they're still around today. Because real Catholic thinkers during the Counter-Reformation passionately tried to postively prove their beliefs, and actually convinced a lot of detractors
